The Reverence of Rajab: Embracing the Sacred Month

The Reverence of Rajab: E...

Congratulations on the arrival of the sacred month of Rajab. This esteemed month is greeted with the supplication of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him):

Transliteration: "allahumma barik lana fi rajabin wa sha`bana wa ballighna shahra ramadana wa a`inna `ala alssiyami walqiyami wa hifzi allisan wa ghaddi albasari wa la taj`al hazzana minhu alju`a wal`atasha .

Translation: "O Allah, please bless us in Rajab and Sha`ban. and bring us to the month of Ramadhan, and assist us in fasting, and worshipping, to be careful in our speech, and turning our eyes from the unlawful. let our only share of it not be only hunger and thirst! ”

In the Qur’an, Allah emphasizes the sanctity of the sacred months, urging us not to wrong ourselves or commit any act of aggression during these revered times. Honoring these months involves refraining from sinful deeds and diligently following Allah's guidance through prayers, fasting, obeying our parents, maintaining family ties, practicing kindness, and avoiding dishonesty.

According to a hadith recorded by Imam Al-Bukhari, Allah designated four months as sacred, and among them is Rajab. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) stated, "The division of time has turned to its original form which was current when Allah created the Heavens and Zulkaedah, Zulhijjah, and Muharram, and (the fourth is) Rajab of (the tribe of) Mudar which comes between Jumadith-Thaniyah and Sha’ban."

The 27th of Rajab holds special significance as the night of the Prophet's miraculous journey and ascension, known as 'Isra and Mi'raj' or 'Shab-e-Meraj.' It was during this night that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) received the gift of the five prescribed daily prayers, underscoring the importance of this occasion.

As we enter the sacred month of Rajab, let us seize the opportunity to engage in acts of worship, seek forgiveness, and purify our hearts. May our endeavors in this blessed month lead us away from the fire of hell, and may we be granted the strength to make the most of this spiritually enriching time.
