Ride for Roswell Day of Service with WNYMuslims

Ride for Roswell Day of S...

Ride for Roswell’s first event took place in 1996 with 1,000 participants. This past Saturday, Roswell Park Cancer Institute celebrated its 20th event anniversary with over 8,200 cyclists. In total, more than $4.5 million was raised to support further cancer research and patient care programs. Additional funds are used to enhance patient and family services, support clinical treatments, and to educate future generations of scientists and clinicians.

14 volunteers from WNY Muslims spent their morning as Route Guides, directing riders where to safely go during the event as well as providing them with encouragement to continue through. Despite the rain and cold weather, all of the volunteers remained enthusiastic and supportive of all the riders. The cyclists began their trail at the University of Buffalo North Campus and each participants end location varied depending on the distance they chose. They had the option of registering in routes ranging from 3 miles- 102 miles in distance. Therefore, the encouragement and aid of all volunteers was of great assistance to the riders.

The WNYMuslims volunteers are looking forward to participating in the event next year as well. About 2,000 volunteers are needed in order to successfully carry out the Ride for Roswell event. Each volunteer’s dedication to help was essential in making the event such a success.
